the game plan
3-4-3
Starting Lineup
The following players will be starting the game on Saturday. Positions can/ may change and will be confirmed just before we start.
We are playing an older team, BUT they have a lot of experience on their side, so we will go in with a full-court running press for the first 5 minutes and then fall back into a 3/4 normal arrowhead.
NB!!! DO NOT fly into tackles, they will skill you and you will become a beacon. Put pressure, but hold until you see a gap to go in.
The goal is to heavily restrict passing options, force rushed errors and create turnovers to generate immediate counter-attacks on goal.
When we use it:
We use this press when we want to put immediate pressure on the opposition from the back. The goal is to force them to make rushed passes, push them toward one side of the field and win the ball back high so we can attack quickly.
Player Roles:
Forwards
The forwards start the press. Their job is to run hard, close down passing options, and guide the ball toward one side of the field. The first forward presses the player on the ball, while the others block easy passes into the middle or across the back.
Midfielders
The midfielders push high and stay connected to the forwards. Their job is to mark the opposition midfielders, intercept loose passes, and be ready to win the second ball. They must not drop too deep, otherwise a big gap opens between the forwards and midfield.
Defenders
The defenders hold a high line and step up with the team. Their job is to cover opposition forwards, protect against long balls, and keep the whole team compact. They must be brave enough to move up, but also ready to recover quickly if the ball gets through
Block the middle. Force wide. Shift together. Trap on the sideline. Win the ball.
